Focusing on Your Coverage and Benefits – Regular Health Insurance
At Discover Chiropractic in Bothell, we take your health and your concerns to heart. We have done our best to become In Network, Preferred Providers for all the major and many minor health insurance companies. There is a list below of all the health insurance companies we contract with. But first, lets talk about how your insurance works and what you can expect when you come in to visit out office.
There are three main sections of your insurance that determine what care costs: Annual Deductible, Copay, and Coinsurance.
*Annual Deductible. Some lucky members do not have a deductible on their plan, but most do. The annual deductible amount was chosen by either you, your employer, or your insurance agent. The deductible is the amount of money you must pay before your insurance benefits kick in. Many people have deductibles that range from $250 to $10,000. You must pay for your health care directly to you health provider until that deductible is reached. Then your insurance will start to pay.
*Co-pay. This is a set amount you pay per visit when you see a provider. Usually this amount is $10 to $50 per visit. Some people have plans that allow them to visit their chiropractor and only pay a copay each visit and their annual deductible does not apply. This is nice because deductibles are rising every year. However, some plans have a copay that is due per visit even after the deductible is met. We feel this is unfair, since you already paid down a large deductible, but that is the nature of health insurance. If you are unhappy with your plan, speak to your agent or HR.
*Coinsurance. This is the amount calculated in a percentage, usually 10 to 30% that is due at the time of service after your annual deductible is met. Most insurance companies make their insured (you) pay a percentage of their care even after you have paid your annual deductible. It is considered your cost share. Usually we see people with plans that once the deductible is met their insurance pays 80% and patient then pays 20%. Some plans are 70/30 and some lower plans are 50/50.
As at any provider office, deductible, coinsurance, and/or co-pays are due at time of service and paid by the patient when in office.
SOME lucky patients have full coverage where they have no personal financial obligation, but these plans are rare. If you have one, hang on to it!
